What is Aikido?
Aikido is a Japanese marital art developed by
Morihei Ueshiba. On a purely physical level it
is an art involving some throws and joint locks
that are derived form Jujitsu and some throws
and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu.
Aikido is a non-competitive martial art. It
utilizes partner practice to nurture a spirit of
harmony and mutual assistance. Its techniques
are based on the principle of blending one’s
movement with breath and one’s energy with that
of his or her partner. Aikido movements are
martially effective and at the same time lead to
a peaceful resolution of conflict. Aikido offers
a rigorous physical practice, and is well suited
for men and women of different ages as well as
children.
Our Sensei: Nestor Rodriguez
Sensei Rodriguez’s training began under sensei
chief instructor 4th degree Paul Domanski. In
2008 sensei Rodriguez was promoted to shodan. Training: Kids:

young children. The training emphasizes physical
balance and timing. coupled with a calm and
controlled attitude.
Clear thinking and instinctive, precise action
replaces violence as a response. This is the
kind of training on the mat that becomes a
wonderful lesson for dealing with all of life’s
problems that you child will face as he or she
grows up.
In our children’s program, your child will learn
to roll and fall safely, relax, respond
appropriately to a bull, and feel better about
themselves and others.
